Strategic Planning

Many businesses that find themselves in difficulty operated without formal goals, budgets, or planning.  The business “survived” day to day and made a little money.  Some good years.  Some bad years.  No real direction.  Do you know the top five goals for your business this year?  This decade?

So, what is strategic planning?  Think big picture.  Real big picture.  Where are we going?  What kind of financial returns are we seeking?  What kind of staff will we need ten years from now?  What kind of facilities and equipment will we need over the next twenty years?  What is the future of the markets we operate in?

You get the picture.

• Which employees are critical?  When will we need to replace them?
• How do we achieve financial independence outside of the business?

• How can we assure our children are capable of running the business independently?
• To undergo a major expansion, what financial resources will we need?
• How do we position the company for an eventual employee buyout?
• Do we have a plan and timeline to exit the business?

Big goals get us out of bed in the morning.  Big goals keep us working late at night.
