I love this country and believe it is the land of opportunity. The sheer power of the United States economy has never ceased to amaze me for even one minute. Watching a container train race across the country or walking a construction site provides me reassurance that we have an economy that is the envy of the world.

As a college student, I worked a variety of jobs for large organizations. Often times, I found the companies seemed incapable of making the rapid changes required in the highly competitive marketplace. I began to believe that small and medium-sized businesses represented the future. Technology had begun to level the playing field and ambition seemed to be the most critical element.

In the nineteen years since I started Key Consulting, Inc., I have seen some very interesting things. I have worked for people who have had tremendous success and became millionaires with little more than a high school education and guts. I have also seen some of the nation’s most educated people destroy businesses due to incredibly poor decision making.

I have battled lenders and creditors who seemed intent upon destroying a company; and I have worked with lenders and creditors who did everything they could to assure a troubled company was given a second chance.

Credit is the lifeblood of the economy and I have helped existing businesses raise capital to expand. I then had the pleasure of continuing to advise them as they grew rapidly and became forces in their markets. I have worked with businesses that could not tell you their checking account balances and businesses so worried about pennies they missed picking up dollar bills.

America is an ownership society and I am lucky enough to hold equity positions in three businesses. I genuinely believe I am the luckiest man in the world. I have a great family, great employees, and great clients. I am also blessed to know that the opportunities in this great country are limitless if you are willing to work hard and take risk.
